Good Free Gear for a new home.

Hey guys ... I'll start something new here...

I have a flat rate box of heavy saddle/tooling leather I'll offer for free... only catch is in order to claim this you have to offer something of yours at the time of posting an "I'll take it"

Lets see how long we can keep this going.

1.) First "I'll take that" followed by a PM gets it.

2.) No taking a prize without offering one for trade... Don't claim a prize and then post a coment like "I'll go see what I got".... Have your offered item ready and found before posting an "I'll take that"!

3.) If you wish to start another "thread list" that is fine ...but to prevent confusion there should be no cross posting.. example..do not take  my leather for an exchange of an item  you posted on another thread list.

4.) this can be a way to help new guys get into the sport , but if your 1st post to the forum is to claim the latest prize, then you better darn well have good intentions...and not just be here to rip these good people off.

5.) don't  drag your feet about shipping the item you offered!.. ship it ASAP.. 3 weeks later is not acceptable  

6.) Please try to keep things even on the value of your trade item..."Don't trade a half of box of 45 RB's for a new L&R Lock"

Lets try to keep this fun and rewarding.... but at the same time don't clutter the thread with a bunch of coments.. just a "take that /offer this" list... this will keep us from having  to read a 5 page thread to see what is the new offer...just go to the last page and see if you want the latest item offered.

But is each item supposed to be of comparable value?  if so how much leather do you have?  I have a couple of items I could be talked into putting up here (one at a time)

OK, Thanks Badger.. was hoping you would comment on this..My leather just a $12 flat rate box cramed full of as much skirting scrap as I could get into it... good for ball bags some smaller sheaths. etc...this is the leather guys use to make the leather canteens cause it will absorb the bee's wax,,, it also makes the very best OP wads you can get.... can't remember how big the pieces were.. as i was going to sell them for $10+the shipping.= $22...didn't get many takers.


I think that if you have a really nice item to offer it should go into a new thread..(kind of a "High-Roller" thread) and maybe there should be another one opened for guys wanting to trade little/inexpensive items.... in the end there should be no hurt feelings cause what I am offering is "FREE" no stings attached and it is not a "Trade".,,,

In the end I think we should put forth our best effort but there should be NO dollar figures attached to this.. It is suppose to be fun, and generous... a good way to add a new item to your gear and get rid of some of that stuff that you have no use for.

my only real concern with this is if this is supposed to be an area to help the newcomer along - he/she may not have anything to trade yet.... so they would not have an item to post.

Freedom, If the leather is still available "I'll take it" and offer up a (repurposed) possibles bags. Leather possibles bag with the lining removed and has a woven cotton twine shoulder strap that I made on an Inkle loom. I will also include a suede or buckskin (my choice) ball bag.

Are you interested in trading for a handmade hoof pick? I made it out of a used horse shoe on my forge.

   It's not a matter of trading. Reread Wes's rules. You just say "I'll take it" then send a PM to the person offering up the item(s) and posting what it is that you have to put up for grabs for the next person.

Wes  good idea and good point, we are all trying to help the new folks and we are MLC - even trades - sounds good to me  feel sure even the newest folks all have fond a little nich they seem to excel at, different strokes for different folks, we can all have new items we need   just needs a good little hones tradin   thanks

This seems to have fizzled out -- nice idea but no takers from what I can see. Feel free to resurrect it if there's a need....
