Can't say at this point....Have not seen a metric Renegade nipple.  I Thought all TC guns (Renegade included) were 1/4x28 thread with perhaps the possable exception of the smaller Seneca/ Cherokee (not sure about these).  Could you perhaps have received a Lyman GP barrel?  They look a lot alike and the Lymans have a metric thread.  Is it marked Renegade on the barrel or is it an unmarked drop-in barrel?Even the dovetails on the Lyman are metric.  One way to tell for sure.....Try a standard 3/8 front sight in the dovetail slot...if it doesn't fit, it makes me wonder if you got a GP barrel instead.  Of coarse, if it is marked TC Renegade...I am really lost for explanation.  If it had been unaltered...TC nipples are easy to get as well as GP metric nipples....I realize this did little to answer your question...sorry.

Before shooting i would take it to a gun smith and have the threads checked. To me it dose not sound safe to shoot.

Another option....I have seen taps for just such problems with corresponding nipples of same thread from Track.  This may be an option.  They come in several sizes.

Stumpy, this sounds more like the threads are worn out. First thing you want to do (as mentioned earlier) is make sure it's a Thompson Center barrel. A TC barrel will be 28 inches to the breech plug and is clearly marked. TC also makes a 32 inch round ball barrel by special order, but again will be clearly marked. It may also be a Green Mountain IBS barrel. They have very few markings on them except the caliber and their stamping (circle with double hump mountain in it on the left/top flat). There are a couple ways you can go about fixing it. You can order an oversized tap and nipple from Track of the Wolf, tap it and install the new nipple. If it's a TC, contact TC about repair/replacement, they have a lifetime warrantee. You can also go to the local auto parts and get a 1/4-28 Helicoil kit and install a Helicoil. Lastly, you can send the barrel off to Track or one of the other barrel makers and have the breech plug replaced.  Roundball (a member here) is probably the best source of information on TC that there is. Contact him by PM, he can give you contact information on barrel repair or may have another idea.

Syumpy , if it were mine  , I'd go for the fap and oversize nipple !  [hmm] Make sure to order extra nipples as you will no doubt have to replace them if you do much shootin .  thmbsup

Yes it is definaly a tc barrel.when i saw that somebody had put in a 6.075 nipple i cringed.it is quite loose to begin but snugs down well with a 1/4 28 nipple but i still don't trust it.I think my best bet is try track of the wolf.just to be safe.thank you all for your help.
