If I put a Vinegar finish on a barrel could it be browned with LMF browning solution to create a kind of browned damascus look?  I am sure someone has tried to do that around here with all the things this group does.  ET  'shok'

i do not think so as LMF is a rust and card several times product that goes fairly deep quickly. but it is easy to do like their products well

I've wondered about that my self, actually I was thinking of cold blueing it then rubbing it back down would leave the etched areas dark an grey up or polish up the higher areas, still thinking of trying it. Just one of the many projects that need some attention.

I have also wondered what finish would result by wrapping a browned barrel in vinegar soaked string?  ET  'shok'

done the string and vinegar thing on a pistol barrel , then cold blued it . turned out nice !

here`s a photo of it .

I like that.  How tight was the string wrap and how long did you leave it on?  thanks, ET  'shok'

beowulf

pretty danged tight ! wrapped it in plastic and left it in the window so the sun could warm it for a couple of hours or so ! you know its working when the yarn turns brown !

Beowulf that looks sweet!! Thanks for the picture....

turned out better than I thought it would ! dont see why you could`nt brown a barrel treated this way , might have to use plum brown ,but I`ve always had good results with it ! MAYBE NEXT TIME ! [hmm]
