Ever notice that almost everything in some stores is for the .50 cal?  Balls, bullets, cleaning jags, brushes, even the guns -- all .50 cal.  I asked one local dealer and he said that at first all the guns they got were 50 cal so they stocked only things for those.  People saw that and then bought only .50 cal rifles which meant that they only wanted .50 cal accessories.  Circular logic.  I would bet if they stocked some .54 and .58 cal things, as well as rifles that would take that caliber, they would sell.  Some people always want the biggest they can get.  Lots of things that I would prefer to buy local have to come over the internet, such as .54 accessories.

Caliber discrimination ?
In Mississippi you can't buy roundballs, patches, #10 revolver caps and since the legalization of the single shot centerfire, heck sabots and bullets are getting rare.
Now the govt. is thinling of making the single shot centerfire legal in archery season. Ever hear of an H&R 45/70 bow or a Sharps 50/90 bow, strange world

Yes Sir
A centerfire caliber,at least or larger than .350 caliber has been legal in Mississippi for 3 seasons now as long as the gun design is pre 1900. So this qualifies the H&R Handi Rifle with scope as a legal weapon.
My H&R 45/70 scope equipped, shooting my 300 gr reloads, has been shot 3 times in anger at deer. once by me at 190 yards, once by my oldest son at 135 yds, and once by my youngest son at 210 yards, all sucessful and still the state of Mississippi insists it's a primitive weapon . the rifle is now used for my grand daughters and has been rebarreled in 243 for them. My son's and I hunt with caplocks a lot of the time

I remember not too many years ago, all that was available here was .45 cal.  Now it's .50 and .54 cal. and .45 is even more rare than the occasional .32 and .36.

I live in CA our local gun shops are pretty much hit and miss on black powder supplies. If i am willing to drive over an hour we have two country gun shops in the foot hills that specialize in black powder and cowboy action shooting and they stock pretty much everything including black powder. In our small town they opened a Bass Pro Shop they stock a lot of different size balls but they are 20.00 a box. They also sell Goex black powder they keep it in the back room you have to ask for it. They charge 20.00 for it.
