The shooting bag (left) was my very first attempt using some leather a friend gave me.  The bag on the right is made from canvas and buckskin.  I used wooden beads for decoration.  The day horn's stopper has a powder measure on the end for priming charges.  The two antler powder measures are for 65 and 30 grains.  The two frizzen covers were a good learning experience.  The next ones will be better.

Looks pretty good to me...

But if I can give one small piece of advice, I would use a welt between the layers of the leather.  I use a welt on all of my bags now.  It helps to protect the stitches, and when the bag is turned right side out it kinda lets it lay a little flatter and has a more finished look to it.  Also that little band around the exposed edges helps too.

Don't get me wrong what you have doen is great...definitely no a "feeble attempt"!  I know because my first attempts were VERY FEEBLE.

Looking Good Hanshi!
I don't even see any blood stains on them thmbsup
I usually poke myself a few times trying to sew up leather. (susp)

very nice work ,wether it first or thirtieth attempt ! you do good work ! it gets better with practice ,my first bag left a lot to be desired !

Hanshi

Watauga, I did most of the work with bandaids on my fingers & that prevented most of the bloodstains.

Bull, thanks for the tips; I will definitely remember them from here on out.  Will it save my street creds if I claim I actually made them in the 5th grade?  Oooookay, then; 3rd grade?  Would you believe I found them in the trash can at a local preschool?  What about...........

pretty dang cool...seen them for sale places...might try and make one.  I been using a little 2"square piece of heavy duty leather...works pretty good, but one on my hand may work better.

Bulldog Lady, I thought "thimble" referred to the little glass of whiskey you sip while you sew??

Hankeye, I actually did use a palm saver borrowed from a friend; it works!

Hawken50, Iffin I get good enough I might make one for the next giveaway.

Those are good enough for the next give away!  Anything hand made by any of us is worth it's weight in gold to me.... Just my feelings for the talent and comradeship we have here.

Agree with JamminJim 100%- Sumpin made by hands that we are fortunate to have an acquaintance with are invaluable. The thought and effort put into any project is worth more than anything store bought. I admire all the craftsmanship and willingness of all to share the good, not so good and the supream. I am in the not so good group at this point but with the advice found here I hope to get to not so good+.
Thanks for the pics.
