Trapping?

I was just wondering how many of you do any trapping?

It seems to me, that with all those out there that portray trappers and mountain-men at rondys, that there has to be a few out there that actually run a few traps during the season.

After all, if we're going to take the time to learn the skills that the one we portray used every day, would'nt it make sense to learn the skills used to earn a living?

Do a lot of coon trapping. Tan the hides in flats and trade or sell them at powwow, some times they go for fat, other times they is skinny. Even gifted a few over the yers for folks to hat.
Get a coyote once in a blue moon. We live the life out here, doing things the old ways. We hunt with flinters and early percussions, brain tan, trade and sell skins, make most of what we need, things like that. So ya, we do.

State registered problem wildlife trapper. the only critter Im not autherized for is gators but, Im on the list dntn

I was going to get my general trapping licence for this season, but this state came up with a new one:  Live traps (cage style) only with hunting licence and trapping licence. Special permit for any other type of trap.

What's next? Catch and release only?

So you live trap them and then what?  Give them a running start before you start shooting?  Or maybe put the trap in a bag and gas them or lethal injection?  Makes no sense.

The manual says to shoot them in the head with a .22   And they even make sure to say over and over again that it will not affect the price of the pelt if you do. So much for face-on pelts.

make sure to shoot them in the eye then.... or the ear maybe...

Use .22 shorts or BB caps. They dont tend to blow a big hole in the head and kill them just as DRT as any .22 LR.
