Re-doing a GPR

I picked up Great Plains Hunter awhile back for a great price, thinking I'd keep it for myself. But my good friend John was wanting
something other than his TC New Englander. He didn't want the fast ROT so I found a .50 GPR barrel to put on it. Just a couple problems.
Some one had put a THICK, badly applied coat of Varathane on what was otherwise a nice piece of walnut. And the barrel I got was bent!
Just to look down it made all my carpenter senses go into revolt! I have a tough time with things that aren't square, plumb, STRAIGHT!
So I took it to one of the guys in out club that builds guns and we put it in the hydraulic press. Did it help? I didn't know for sure, as there
was no rear sight, but I could look down the barrel without getting sick. Yesterday after a COLD day of shooting, I came home to find my
box from TOW had come.
So today I tapped the rear sight in and centered the front sight and headed out to give it a try. I didn't try to find the best load, just used
55 grns ff to see if it was shooting any where near to straight. Here's how it did.

I was holding top center of the chair. The first 2 were in the front edge of the chair, and I kept raising the rear sight until my last 2 were
just 1 1/2 inches left of my POA. Like I said, not worried about fine tuning as I still have to remove the sights to brown the barrel, but I
think Ralph and I got the barrel straightned out!

Barrel looks to be better :applause:
Now for the stock. If you strip it, expect  that it may be a very light colored Euopean walnut like the one that I had posted.

Oh, the varathane is long gone! Still have some scrapeing and sanding to go, then stain with LMF Lancaster maple and a hand rubbed oil
finish. If tomorrow is as sunny as today I'll see about some pics of the rifle. I'll also see if I have a shot of what it USED to look like.
