In a historical reenactment mindset what years would she be more or less "Correct" for? [hmm]

American Revolution, maybe a wee bit later. A "typical" Revolutionary-period Lancaster would have a straighter, slightly wider buttplate and maybe a little bit heavier-proportioned stock -- but then again there are Revolutionary-period rifles of similar or even slightly slimmer proportions. The sliding wood patchbox is a feature that would be correct all the way back before the French & Indian War, but the Siler lock and the contours of the buttplate and triggerguard are 1780-ish at the earliest, and most rifles built much before the Revolution still show distinct jaeger characteristics in their architecture. Except for not having a brass patchbox, this is an early but fully-evolved Lancaster.

There might be a question regarding the straight barrel, but this is an issue of "commonality" as opposed to actual correctness, and whether or not straight barrels were actually used on earlier rifles. They definitely weren't as common as swamped barrrels, but they just as definitely are seen on surviving guns of the period.

Very nice piece. Is that a Siler lock?

Plainsmans post on another forum enlightened me to Mike's work and I ended up here. I had given up on getting a quality US made Lancaster. Beautiful rifle, can't wait to order one.

Plainsman

Got to shoot her this weekend! And she shoots as good as she looks!

I only had time to get one relay in, but at 25 yards, spit patched round ball, with 50 grains of fff goex, holding dead center she grouped like this from the off hand.

A little more range time and I'll have that group dialed in! Thanks Mike a great gun!

(by the way that was a used target it was posted upside down for these 5 shots)

I've said a bunch of times before -- I can't take credit for the accuracy. That's between the shooter and his rifle. Build a rifle from good components and she'll more than likely be a tackdriver.

Any update on how the munchkin's rifle shoots?

Plainsman

Well either way Mike, I'm on my way to hanging the Hawken on the wall and shooting this Flinter in the next match!

William

She looks good in shooting mode too, and I like your capote as well.
