Hello, I need some help with a hat.  I've got a wool felt hat blank that I've been wearing, but I'd like to shape/stiffen the brim.  Its getting pretty floppy and the brim is creased/misshapen in some places.  Whats an easy but good way to go about stiffening/shaping the brim on my hat?

Dogshirt

You can try spraying it down with water, just a bit more than damp. Then take an iron set for wool to it. This should shrink the fibers and tighten the felt up.
Just don't leave the iron in one place too long. OH! And it does smell kinda like a wet sheep.

Yep! What Dogshirt says!
I use the iron to straighten out my Campaign / Scoutmaster hat from time to time.
If it is real bad some spray fabric starch will help it too.

once you got it shaped a little hair spray will help hold it in place.

I use liguid starch and water mix to help hold the shape - until it rains then I have to re-apply and reshape

It may no longer be relevant, just read the post, but when me and my brother were Rodeoing we used to shape our hats by holding them over the steam from a boiling kettle until the hat was good and hot, then shape it to your satisfaction and allow to cool while holding it to the shape you desire, when cool it would become stiffer. hope it isn't to late to help. thmbsup

I used to many eons ago work in a western store, we used a steamer to shape the 4x stetson beavers on down.  Good luck and just stay out of the rain and keep in a hat box  :mini-devil-28492:
