Since this is a pretty much standard item for me I won't show every last one I build from here on out -- but this one's pretty cool. Normally these guns are halfstocks, but they were made, also, as fullstocks, well into the middle of the 19th century and probably beyond (a capture of a page of a Tryon catalog from the 1870's offers a fullstocked rifle right along with two or three variations of the halfstocks), and lately that seems to be what people want me to build. This is the highest-grade model I offer, with a Colerain 30" x 1" .54 caliber barrel (barrel lengths can be had out to 36"), L&R lock modified to more resemble certain styles of trade percussion lock of the period, and a Leman-style "wilted lily" capbox modified to a pattern seen on a number of James Bown rifles, which are the models for this line of guns. The owner wanted the single trigger due to this being a Texas "hog rifle" with the "hogs" in question being big and mean and there being no time or need for foolishness like setting triggers.

P+ curly maple that will be finished with a red-brown stain and tung oil, with the steel browned. The guard did have a spur up on the trigger bow, but it was requested that I make that go away, again as was done on a number of the originals.

Yes, I take orders on them. I occasionally have "off the rack" halfstocks but right now I don't.

What's described in the link below is what a person gets -- I don't make big changes to the basic design. Obviously I will do the guns as fullstocks, at the same price as the halfstock models, but otherwise if it's not described or listed on this page then it probably isn't available: http://www.chooseyourweapon.net/Western-Trade-Rifle.html

One last question good sir, can one order these in the "white" with capbox? Due to my lack of ability in the gunbuilding ways...I would like to do most of the finishing work myself..stain, browning, polishing..This way at least i could say I was part of the process.

mongrel

Definitely. If anything I enjoy doing "in the white" guns more than the finished ones -- it gives the customer the chance to do as you say, be a part of the process.

CampbellClan

so how much is one of these rifles in halfstock in the "white" or basically in the same form of what you have pictured in this post?
Thanks
