I have one of those Investarm Hawken rifles. It is as good or better than my TC. I was in the new Cabela's inLubbock and got to examine a new Cabela's offering. I was shocked at the drop in quality. It had a smaller plain lock, a shorter tang with one screw. I'm sure more shortcuts were involved if I had longer to examine the rifle. It's probably functional, but a disappointing find. Hang on to the good ones you have. I think that the middle class has supported all these big consumer outlets for years. As the income is dropping these stores are finding it harder to maintain profit so drop quality. Olsan ther is less demand for traditional side lock rifles. There were lots of the "others".

Cabelas has, within the last year or two, changed over the manufacturer of their Cabelas branded rifles. Formerly, they were made by Investarms, maker of the Lyman rifles. Now they are made by Pedersoli, as are many other Cabelas offerings. The new rifle does have a smaller lock than the old Investarms version (which had the same lock used on the Great Plains Rifle and others). I do not know how this particular Pedersoli lock performs in the flint version, but the percussion version should have not issues. Pedersoli is generally recognized as making a very high quality product. FYI, you can get a Lyman Trade Rifle for less than the Cabelas Hawken at midsouthshooterssupply.com.
