I got some pointers from Matt Avance when I was at his shop about shooting a flintlock. Well his advise worked where I was hearing the flint hit the frizzen, the powder whooosh, then bang, which resulted in me flinching now I pull the trigger and Braveheart goes bang. Two things I was doing wrong Way too much prime powder and I didn't pick the vent after loading.
A little advise: BraveHeart will stomp your tail with 120 gr ffg and 1 1/2 oz #6 shot

LOL... glad I'm doing something right when shooting my flinter.   I'm also glad I don't have anything that will take 120 grains of powder.   :o

I backed down real quick to 60 gr and 1 ounce Just got to see what a heavy load will do for turkey.
When I got the vent hole drilled I tied the barrel to a tire after loading 150 gr ffg and 2 .690 roundballs as a proof load, fired it off with firecracker fuse

The amount of prime in the pan(a lot less than I tought)
pick the touch hole after loading
keep the prime away from the touch hole
Showed me how they bed the rear of the barrel and tang

Sound advice. Prime is like Brylcream , 'a little dab will do ya' lol !

We just finished my sons Tulle. (not completly, need to solder on the front sight) I took my time and did a lot of polishing to the lock internals. After finishing we took it for a test drive on Sunday afternoon. Shoots great. No click, boom. Just Boom! He was thrilled with it. I need to take some pics and put it on here. The right amount of prime has a lot to do woth how she goes off.
