biy your pistol non kit type.

Hi all,
Im new to black powder and to the form.
what Im looking to do is a biy b/p hand gun non kit. more to the point is start with a chunk of round stock (4130 or H-13 steel) and make a barrel and the rest, i.e. lock works frame. has sombody made one?

Howdy muttman ! Ive bored barrels from 4140 for smoothbore pistols , made matchlock locks , triggers , stocks from blanks ,locks with Siler lock kits breechplugs about all but a scratch flint or perc lock from raw material .Done a few flints years ago from the Twigg castings that Dixie sold then. Made quite a bit of hardware for the guns from scrap metal.

Hey Muttman!!!  Welcome drag up a cup and a chair stump whathaveyou? Anyways, Yes I have made all parts also mostly in a well equipped machine shop which I manage. The most important thing is dont rush any one piece or procedure or you could have a disaster on your hands. But yes It can be done!!!

thanks for the input. I plan on using some H-13 for the barrel and breach plug. the lock works ? I do not have a clear under standing of what one looks like to work from. the stock will be from some wood spacers that were made from walnut , yes walnut that were ment to get trashed. I guess this makes me "green".                  muttman
