I just bought an 1851 .44 Traditions revolver with a steel frame. The no.10 caps are too small so that the cylinder wont rotate with em on.  ??? ???I tried no. 11 and they are too big they kinda stay on but are very loose.  ??? ???Any thought?  ??? ??? thanks guys

Two possible solutions...if your using CCI caps, try Rem. #10...there a bit looser fitting. Or use the #11 CCI and squeeze them a bit tighter with your thumb and forefinger. You can buy better nipples but it isn't necessary.

OR....

Cut a slit in the side of the cap with a real small pair of scissors...

A lot of people have commented on the fit of caps to nipples. One solution is to press them down with a wooden dowel after seating with with your capper or fingers.

If this one of the older models of traditions probably all you will need to do is get a tin of rem. #10 caps but before you do look at the nipples and make sure the are not mushroomed by dry firing.
If you find they are mushroomed you can dress them up with a small file

Are the nipples seated all the way ??
Mebbe it's a "length" thing  ??
On my '51, there was one nipple that the cap always hung up on the frame.
It turned out to be.0040 -.0050" longer than the rest...
I filed it down some, to the same length as the others.. problem solved...
(My nipples OAL is now .540")
I had tried the "push-hard-with-a-dowel" thing.. no improvement.
The one nipple was just too long.

I use REM 10 caps  thmbsup..they work better'n CCI  :qz:
No. 11's  just fell off...

As easy as #11's are to crimp between thumb and finger it always seemed a bother to buy 10's and 11's.

use number 11s and squeeze them a bit works great.

strpot Onliest problem wit squesin em is possibility of chain fire. YOU WANT A TIGHT FIT SO'S YA GITS A GOOD SEAL.
If the #10's are a tight fit jest chuck the nips in a drill and dress em up with sandpaper.Or even better git yoself a set of Tresso nips.Always been a good fit fer me and last forever ta boot.

Well, you gonna pull them pistols or whistle Dixie?

been shooting squeezed no 11s on my pistols at civil war reenactments for over thirty years and never seen a problem. usually come from not sealing the cylinder properly. but i guess it could happen.
