Is Onasburg a traditional fabric, bleached or unbleached ?
What was it used to make?

Halfdan

Osnaburg--also known as 'osnabrig' or 'oznabrig' or 'ozzinbrig'  was a common coarse material named for the city in Germany where much of it was made. In the period, as I I understand it, it was made of linen and/or tow fibers, not cotton. The cotton osnaburg you'll find at the chain stores (Joanne's, Hancock's, WalMart, etc.) bears very little resemblance to the period fabric.

That being said, cotton osnaburg is very popular in some circles.

Hope this helps,
Dave
