This barrel had a bulge in it about 4 inches from the crown, but it was included for free along with the stock and an undamaged slow twist barrel.  Since it has a 1:32 ROT I decided to have the new crown cut at an angle to more easily center conicals.  A new dovetail was needed for the front sight as well, so I chose a wide brass type and replaced the rear with an adjustable buckhorn.  This set-up works well especially when shooting un-supported and it groups maxi-balls and Lee REAL bullets very well.  See what you think;

Looks good, still plenty of length and lighter to carry...sounds like a winner to me...

It does seems to balance better than the standared length, but the best part of it all is that I got the barrel for free, so even though I've got maybe $70 total in new parts and labor, that's nothing compared to what a new one costs.  I wonder how much less velocity there is compared to my other barrel?  Maybe it's apples to oranges because of the different twist rates and projectiles?

Yea, I had forgotten about that shoulder mounted pistol he had made a while back, no doubt he is smiling on all of us.

You can see that shorty here; http://traditionalmuzzleloadingcheap.com/forum/index.php?topic=5682.0

In fact, now that I look at it, I think I chose the same front sight as he did!

That's what I thought too until I looked at the catalog it's listed in, which states to mount it that way.

Ya had to LOVE the man, sure do miss him, but as long as there's somebody with a hacksaw fetish he lives on, read this thread and was both crying and laughing at the same time, as far as the lock being on the wrong side, all lefthanders are rightminded!!!! blah

William, Are you going to put an under rib and Ramrod Thimbles on the Cut & crowned barrel?
Just wondering [hmm]

I hadn't thought about that but it would make a good project.
