Well I must have done something right! Went out this morning in a steady rain and with wind to boot! when I got done for the day, I took a shot to see if she would go off or not and she went off just like at the range!  What I did was seal the pan with my bear grease, and all the creveses that would channel water to my pan along the barrel and lock area, and I also built up me a lock cover outa old soft deer skin and treated that with boiled linsead oil, all worked out great this trip!! I didn't cover the barrel just made sure she was pointed down the whole time!

That's what it takes...just try some things and see what works

Another way to keep the bore dry without having to keep it pointed down is to use a condom. YES-- that kind of condom. Works great is cheap and you can shoot right through it.
Started using them for hunting a few years ago and dont go hunting without them anymore.

GI's used em for that during WWII, on their battle rifles of course.

When I load fresh in the garage before leaving the house, I use a piece of blue painters tape over the muzzle.
And then I have a few large size 'finger cots' as part of reloading gear in the field.

We used condoms in Nam. I have been told they use them in current conflick only this time to keep sand out of the barrel.

There used to be little black ones esp. made for muzzleloaders, but I haven't seen those for years!

A small piece of duct tape over the barrel works to keep out sand and water/snow.  Change your priming powder in the pan if you think it may be damp during the day.  The duct tape blows off long before your ball exits the barrel so I doubt it could effect the accuracy.
