I got my Lyman Flint to go with my Cap gun. I had to get the flint in .50 cal and will add a .54 barrel later, They were out of .54's and couldnt pass the deal up. But anyway, I have noticed that my .490 rb's and .015 patches seem to be a little on the loose side in the barrel. Im not sure if I should get .495 balls or thicker patches. It does seem like the 490 balls are more common than the 495's. What do you guy's think?

My o'l lady picked me up some bulk pillow ticking at the store(.018) I will be cutting some patch's today and go do some shootin. My youngest boy has been buggin me to take him shootin his BP pistol, so we will go and make a day of it.

Try thicker patches first, you might pick up some .020 pre-cut and lubed patches to begin with.  Also, Lyman barrels usually need to have the bores polished before they start to give really good accuracy, be sure to check your patches for cuts to see if this is the case with your new GPR.

Well the pillow ticking seems to be about right, but now i am having ignition trouble. I can only get about 4 or 5 shots and then start gettin misfires. have to pick and dig up in the vent to get it to go off. who sells a better vent liner for lyman?

What size did you drill it out?

If you have a 5/64" drill bit see if it will go in the vent hole. That is about the minimum size hole that works consistantly for me. If you don't have that size and you have a round needle file, use the file by turning it counter clockwise and enlarge the hole a little at a time until you get consistant ignition. This will also taper the hole a little which will funnel a little more heat in to the main charge.
You might also want to try the needle file after the 5/64 bit just to taper the hole or if you are still not getting good ignition.
Good luck.

I have changed the liner but still have an occasional flash and no boom,  it is always caused by too much powder in the pan, atleast for me.  I just put a little powder, about 1/2 full and no misfires.

I ordered an RMC vent a couple weeks back but have not been able to go shoot yet do to the high winds and work. The RMC looks to be the answer and uses an allen wrench to install that will allso be a good cone for the flash. will try to get out this weekend to burn some powder.
