Do you remember the H&R Springfield Stalker?  I have one in .45 caliber.  Anyone else own one or know anything about them?

I come real close to buying one of these years ago...about 1973 or there abouts.  Came out about the time that H&R started producing their 1873 Springfield trap door 45/70 carbine.  I bought the 45/70 instead.  A fair amout of the parts were interchangeable.  The trapdoor was a very good quality gun, the Stalker appeared to be just as good and I have always regreted not getting the stalker....also selling the trapdoor.

Hey Bull Frog, I did not know that H&R remade the Trapdoor. I grew up on a real Trapdoor, my grandfather made sure I learned how to shot it. I think he enjoyed watching me shoot it more than shooting it himself. He made deals with a friend of his to get reloads all the time, it was nothing for me to shoot 20-30 rounds a day. I got so used to that gun, it felt like an extension of me sometimes. It was a full rifle, I shot the original carbines a few times, was not the same to me. I wouldn't want a carbine but it is interesting that they made a remake here in USA.
Question, how did the remake compare to an original?

They had a standard carbine, an offercers carbine with an attached cleaning rod with adjustible tang long range sight, also an infantry model.  My standard model had dove tail sight that was fairly modern looking with target post front sight.  Beautiful and well made but not very PC.  The officers model was supposed to be more PC and had checkered wrist.  The Infantry model had as I recall, the traditional military ladder type sights.  I actually paid down on the Infantry model but just never finished paying for it, regretfully.  I shot the officers model and liked it but it belonged to some one I met at the range.
