My favorite barrel is the 44 inch swamped Rice Radius cut rifling. Radius cut rifling goes back to the old times. These barrels have the advantage of shooting clean. During match relays these barrels can deliver without being cleaned during long continued use.

My ability to shoot has dropped lately because I can't see the sights any more. The sights are just a blur out there even with a peep on my glasses, but I have been a top level shooter. That said, I learned a long time ago to go out and shoot as well as I and my equipment can and see how I do. Dont fret about a bad shot, just make the next one as good as you can.

A good shot with a poor rifle will still shoot ok, but the best rifle in the hands of a poor shot will not shoot that well.

Winning is nice, but shooting and being around others who like to shoot traditional muzzleloaders is better.

That is a real problem for me as well. At one time a few years ago my progressive bifocals had one spot that focused on the front sight of my competition gun perfectly. Now with longer barrels of BP guns and another few years and I'm back to fighting to get a good sight picture most of the time. That is the main reason that I use mostly tang sights. And to address the thread, it is also the reason that I do not do a lot of load development. The eyestrain involved in shooting groups off a bench will literally shut down my ability to focus for hours. I can easily shoot 40 -60 shots at ,or in the general direction of, a 5 inch swinger  at 50 yds, in hunting positions,  compared to ten off the bench.
I am having pretty good luck with the open sights again using my primitive rear blade, we will see how it goes.

I know Mongrel is right about Ed Rayl is behind mine has been ordered since march and still waiting, but with a nonstandard barrel I knew it would be a wait.
