Deer Rawhide sheath for my patch knife.

This one was more of an experiment, as this is the first one I've used deer rawhide on. And the first fold over style I've made in rawhide.

Turned out really well. I love how the hide takes and doesn't take the dye. Gives it that old look right of the bat. It is different to work with then cowhide, I wouldn't say better just different. Way thinner that is forsure, this stuff is like paper.

Looks really nice. How long does it take you to make one?

I like to make either a wooden liner , or an inner sheath made from heavy strap leather ! or use a heavier raw hide . interesting stuff to work with , can be a real pain in the nether regions on occasion !  ROFL that turned out nice , my first one was`nt near as nice !

That one took about 2 hours from start to finish.


And yes this one is veg tanned leather lined as well.

Loks great!  My only concern would be when it gets wet.... but the veg tan inner lining should help.
