well 2 days ago i went for a drive in holcomb valley, and this was not one of my smarter ideas, anyway about 10 miles out i decided there was to much snow and turned around, but by this time it was warm and slushy and i couldnt return the way i came. this is where it falls apart fast! i miss judge a small patch of snow and get my bronco stuck! soooo after digging for a while with no luck, i decide to walk out, its 4pm and the sun is going down, and it starts to rain. great! i hike for 8 miles to the top of the ridge between holcomb and bear valleys and i finally get a signal on the cell, now its 8pm, and i have help coming! i'll tell you what i did a lot of thinking about mountain men and the adventures they went through! they were tuff sonsogunnes! anyway i headed down into bear valley and met my buddy ben that came to the rescue about half way up polique canyon, and was never so glad to see head lights! except for maybe the hot shower, and a hot meal. spent most of yesterday sleeping! makes me wonder how those guys like hugh glass and john johnston made these 200 mile treks with NOTHING in the snow and lived!

i think it was the crow killer hisself that was walkin with me in that storm keeping me going, incouraging me to go on. i guess events like this are an initiation into what its really like to live as a mountain man

Glad you made it home Jean, but were you prepared for an unexpected night out under those conditions? Your as close to a mountain man as we can come nowadays, so I suspect you were prepared if you had to stay the night.

oh yeah, i coulda stayed with my truck, i have extra clothes, MRE's water, blankets, and stuff in my truck. i figgured i could walk out so i bundled up and headed up and over the ridge. i do have a new found appriciation for what these men did! i mean wow! when you put yourself against the elements like that you find out what you are made of! i think me and a buddy will go rescue my truck tomorrow, i'll post pics of the area i walked out of.

Well, I'm really grateful that you made it okay....it's so time consuming to break in a new thorn in my side. ROFL
