Well my daughter is getting the bug for her own gun. She has been shooting my 40 cal lancaster off of the bench but wants one of her own. But not sure what cheaper gun she could shoot off hand. she is big for her age, she's 11. Maybe a little 32 crockett? or? any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Denny

You might try and find a CVA 32 cal. The one I have for my grand daughter
has a 24 in barrel, 13 1/2 in pull and the weight and I am guessing is between 5 and 6 lb. I can't tell you any thing about the Crockett, has I have never seen one in person, only pictures.

I am in the same situation, I am looking for a rifle for my grandson.  I think what I will do is get him a .50 or preferably .54 flinter.  I wanted to get a .36 but short of buying a kit there is nothing around here.  At least with a .54 when he is old enough we can go out deer/moose hunting together. The .36 would not be legal for big game here...minimum .45 cal. required.

The beauty of a muzzleloader is that you can get a kid a 50 cal provided the stock fits them.  Then just load it light and increase the load as they grow.  Recoil never becomes a problem that way.  When my daughter was little I used to load my 50 light enough so there was no noticeable recoil.  Of course, you could also see the ball fly to the target.  She thought that was the neatest thing -- watching the bullet go.

Till he tells his real name," Baby" for now,  Jim got me a traditions 32.cal crockett a few weeks ago, have only had chance to fire it 3-4 times.  It doesn't kick that much, think we put in 30 grains for starters or what ever it is you call it, (yeah I'm a green horn on the stuff)  I'm guess it hitting more towards the  6lbs.  It not bad if can just pulll it up, aim quick and fire but if eyesight is as bad as mine and have to hold it very long to sight it in so ya don't miss to far, starts gettin a little heavy.  Now granted I ain't no spring chicken, so my" muskles" ain't what they used to be, but Baby is a sweet rifle.  Just my two cents worth.  hat's off for starting them young.

Well Mike Lange is going to build my Daughter a scaled down lancaster  45 cal . If all goes well we will have it right before christmas. She will love it.

And you are close enough to actually make a round trip drive in one day and pick it up in person.  He packages extremely well but I always worry about shipping damages -- especially in the holiday crush.

DEADDAWG

Denny,
Where is Mike Lange located? If he's within driving distance, we could team drive to pick it up if you want.

six miles from friendship. so not that far. wont be ready till around christmas.

Mike Lange builds rifles for youngbloods and he does a fine job. He built a .50 percussion for my friend and it is so light I could fire it one-handed. He also sells them at a very reasonable price. His reputation is spotless as is his character. He is always at Friendship at their shoots.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Donk

Mike also sells on Gunbroker auctions.  Here are some of his currently for sale.
